Area Tetrathlon
24/25 July 2003

Five members plus parents and supporters made the trip through to Mussleburgh to compete in the Area Tetrathlon competition, which this year doubled up with the Scotland and Borders “Championship”.

Area 19 TetrathlonWe had four girls competing as a mini team - shown in picture (Left to right) Rachel Offer, Kirsty Wrightson, Claire Geddes, Claire Gaffney – and a junior individual - Heather Ridland.

Over the two days each competitor shoots, swims, runs and completes a cross country course. Well done to the mini girls, who as a team were second out of seven teams entered in both competitions. Of note was Clare Geddes’s shooting, with a score of 880 out of a possible maximum of 1000 and second overall in this discipline. Also noteworthy was the riding phase at Tyninghame, with only 60 points dropped over the four riders – 5540 out of a maximum possible 5600 points – the best riding performance of any team in the competition.

In the Junior competition Heather was well placed in the Swimming and Running phases and with maximum points for the cross country was second overall in the Scottish Championship and retained the Area 19 champions shield for a second year.

Once again its thanks to East Lothian, who took on the monumental task of hosting both events. Eglinton’s Sally Snodgrass was the official steward for the two days and was well pleased to see Eglinton making a comeback in the discipline. Congratulations to our Tetrathletes and thanks to the parents for their ongoing support.

Tetrathlon is a fun Pony Club discipline. It’s a great way to make contacts within the Pony Club for help when having to stay away or for spotting ponies for the future. We always have fun and make new friends. We need more members for the teams for next year so please give me a call if you think this might be of interest.
