RIDING and ROAD SAFETY

Training Days were held on three dates at Muirmill and Rowallan before the test: the first day was dismounted, i.e. no ponies or horses required. Included: Registration, Introduction, Videos.

The following two sessions were mounted including work in traffic. Two points to note:

  • Parents/Supporters; please be prepared to assist Ros in ensuring correct procedures and safety
  • Ponies/Horses must be quiet in traffic - ponies can be shared as work is not arduous + bring reflectors.

Test Day Report

This years' Riding and Road Safety Test was held at Dundonald Camp field. If you can remember the rain and floods of the day before, you will be as amazed as I was to hear that we could actually drive and park on the field. Where else in Ayrshire would this have been possible?

12 candidates took part; some had already sat the test last year and were using this one as preparation for the BHS test on November 9th at Doonfoot.

Everyone passed the multiple choice section (scoring over 24/30) and full marks were achieved by Megan, Hannah and Katie. Well Done.

The ridden section showed up a few difficulties which we hope will be ironed out before the 9th ; a very long riding rain coat which proved unsuitable for walking and leading and a pony who had not read the Highway code and didn't think that 'STOP' signs meant what they said.

Particularly good performances were given by Katie and Megan . What a pity you didn't want to do the BHS test but very well done indeed.

I had a slightly different format for this years' course, basically of fewer but longer sessions. I feel last years' course was better, but the proof of the pudding will be on the 9th...

Very many thanks to parents and helpers, particularly Alastair, Mary, Ann, Mary, Lynne, Margaret, Eleanor and Tricia.

This years' R & RS badges were achieved by ; Katie Ferguson, Megan Wilson, Hannahn Hunter, Sophie Harvey, Rebecca Pottinger, Gina Mitchell and Jaclyn McCallum.
