Senior A team finish 6th at Horse of the Year Show National Championships!

And Juniors finish 4th at Junior National Championships.

In 2002 practices started on Ayr beach in January then indoors at Muirmill until the clocks change - followed by PC field. The teams then moved back to Muirmill for the indoor competitions of the year.

You may have seen some of our members competing at Ayr Show in a fun competition against a team of young farmers on quad bikes!

The Scottish Games Team have just finished competing at the Royal Windsor Horse Show 2002 - including Eglinton member Donald Evans and Trained by Danny Wilson one of our Committee members - click here for the story.

Also in action recently were the British team - competing against teams from Australia, Canada and USA. Lynn and Sue Veitch were involved in their visit to the UK this year - and have described the team's time here - click here.

Diary 2002

Please note that there were many more Games competitions over the year.

April 14th - Eglinton PC Games Competition at Bishopriggs
The day started of damp and drizzly, but our competition warmed the riders and ponies up quickly! Our Senior A team finished 2nd to Edinburgh, while the Juniors had a good day winning 6 out of 7 Games. Click here for results.

June 2nd - Area 19 Games Competition
Well done to the teams - the Senior A team finished a close 2nd to Edinburgh, qualifying for the Zone as did the Junior A team who won the Junior competition.

July 21st - Games Zone Competition at Lanark
The competition saw the best teams in Scotland and Northern Ireland competing for the opportunity to qualify for Horse of the Year Show.
The Eglinton A team did it! Strathearn got off to a good start, and took the early lead in the competition, but Eglinton then fought back, winning 4 of the last 6 races to eventually take the win with a race to spare. Strathearn and West Perthshire qualified to compete in the Robinson's Runners-up Final at Sansaw Park.
Our Junior A team were celebrating too, as they won the Novilon Junior Zone Final - we won the first race, and never looked back, winning 6 of the 8 games as the team cruised to victory! They qualified for the Junior National Final at Sansaw Park.

August 20th - Junior National Championships at Sansaw Park
Our Junior A team came fourth at Sansaw. The competition was in two sessions with the best Junior teams from accross the UK - in the first session they didn't have the best of runs, but with an improvement in the afternoon session they pulled back up to finish 4th! A picture and the names of members appear above.

August 25th - Blair Atholl Friendly Competition
A very busy day with huge numbers of teams competing - led to the competition being split into three sections for Seniors & Juniors. We had 2 Senior and 3 Junior teams competing, at Blair and after rain before the competition the ring was moved to prevent damage for the following day's competing for the Eventing, though we were allowed in later when the arena dried up in the sun.
Our Senior A's finished in 2nd place - behind Strathearn - after being eliminated in the Blair Castle race - a big problem when there were only 6 races in total after qualifying. The Junior A's won the Junior Competition fresh up the road from Sansaw.
This competition is one of the last few of the outdoor competitions, and the teams move indoors shortly to practice at Muirmill - getting ready for Pre-Wembley at Gleneagles, and the Senior A's getting ready for HOYS in Birmingham for the National Championships.

October 9-13th - Horse of the Year Show, Birmingham
Our Senior A team were at the National Championships which are held over the week at the NEC in Birmingham. We're the most sucessful Pony Club in the history - having won the Prince Philip Cup more 12 times. Six teams competed at the championships - a friendly competition is run over the first 2 days, then the National Championships for the Prince Philip Cup over the final 3 days, with the final on Sunday evening.
