Eventing 2002

News

After 2001 was hit by foot-and-mouth, 2002 saw a similar number of events cancelled due to the weather
Our ODE was one of many events that fell victim to the rain in 2002 - (2001 Results).

Our Novice Challenge team went to Cheshire to compete in the Championships in great weather - in the eventing the dressage again went well. The XC course was smaller than the one at the Area, but more technical with some complex fences. Our team of Hannah Hunter, Katie Malloch and Joanna Kerr were eliminated XC - Hannah got round with a stop, Joanna nearly got round, and Katie had problems at the third fence.

British Eventing was also hit time after time - having to cancel virtually all of the events earlier on in the year in Southern Scotland due to the weather, including Auchinleck, Eglinton and Houston. Near the end of the year Eglinton (Barskimming Estate) re-ran and also Culzean and Gleneagles.

Diary 2002

April 3rd Area Cross Country Training Day at Strathearn Eventing.
Well done to the members who made it all the way out to Perth - and all said they had a brilliant day. Instructors were Muriel Colquhoun, David Gatherer (was at Camp) and Martin Arnott. Many thanks to Caro Haddow for organising the rally.

April 28th Area 19 Arena Event at Lanark Equicomplex, Lanark.
Arena Eventing is a competition usually held over the Winter to help get back into practice for the full One-Day Events held later in the year. It starts with a dressage test, then comes two indoor/outdoor jumping rounds done one after the other:- the first is a normal Show Jumping round, then the second is over a rustic course which looks closer to a cross-country course.
This event was held on a rather wet day. This, no doubt, led to a few of the withdrawls of these "fair weather riders"!!! Eglinton members competing included: Emma Rodman - 4th PC Nov/Nov, Hannah Hunter - 1st PC Novice, Rachel Rodman - 1st PC Intermediate and Adam Pawson - 1st Open.

June 30th Eglinton PC One Day Event at Auchinleck Estate
Unfortunately the weather made it impossible to hold the event after an unusually wet month the ground at Auchinleck was too wet.
The tetrathlon competition was run as a Triathlon on the Saturday.

Aug 10th Pony Club Class (3'4") at Eglinton Horse Trials (BE)
Barskimming had a wonderful day to hold the event on - and with the exception of towing lorries on and off the field the ground caused no problems which were not overcome... Well done to Eglinton's Karene Miller who won the Pony Club class, and all other Eglinton riders some of whom were placed. Results are available by clicking here.

Aug 18th Eglinton Hunter Trials at Auchinleck Estate
Cancelled as we cannot get the silage off the field in time due to weather!

August 22nd - Eventing National Championships at Sansaw Park
Well done Karene! Karene went down to Sansaw to compete as an Senior individual after winning the Area individual competition at Kelso. She had a very successful day at Sansaw - finishing 4th. Karene had clears SJ & XC to build on a good dressage score of 70.0, just 5 points behind the winner.
Recently Karene also won the Pony Club class at Barskimming and is travelling back home! Karene is pictured at the Area Competition above.

Sept 1st Pony Club Class (3'4") at Gleneagles Equestrian Centre (BE)

Nicola Jamieson finished fourth only 3 penalties lower and Victoria Smith finished 8th after a good dressage score of 34 she had penalties in SJ and XC time. Sept 15th Pony Club Class (3'4") at Culzean Horse Trials (BE)
After a dry sunny week Culzean had a foggy day! In the Pony Club Class Fiona Alexander and Karene Miller were competing from Eglinton - both in the top 3 after dressage & S.J., Karene finished 2nd but Fiona had a stop XC dropping her down. Many thanks to the many Eglinton members and parents who were also at the event helping steward and fence judging.

Sept 15th Pony Club Class at Brechin Castle Horse Trials (BE)
A twisty course challenged Eglinton members Fiona Alexander who finished second after 5 show jumping penalties - after a run of wins, and to Nicola Jamieson - finished 3rd in the class after she got time faults in the XC after losing a stirrup and having to circle. Brechin are aiming to run the event in May next year.
