Area Show Jumping 2002

The competition was held again at Barony College - a great location, with Dumfriesshire PC organising the day.

Seniors
For our team of Rory Boswell, Victoria Smith, Nicola Jamieson and Adam Pawson, together with individuals Mandy McConechy, Fiona Alexander and Leonie Dunlop, all was going well when suddenly disaster struck.

A thunderstorm and torrential rain arrived during the second round. Torrential rain came down for 40 minutes, and the event had to be cancelled, as the field had turned into a lake (no exaggeration!)

The competition was abandoned.

Teams were invited to jump again at Blackdyke a few days later – the day before the Area Eventing - but only one team was able to attend so they automatically went forward to Sansaw.

Novice Challenge
A’s – Hannah Hunter, Megan Wilson, Ricki McCloy and Jayne Geddes.
B’s – Katie Malloch, Joanna Kerr, Helen McManus and Alice Gamper.

Both teams had good first rounds and were halfway through the second rounds when the weather struck.

The judges conferred and the prizes were then awarded based on the rounds which had been completed. The A team were 5th.

Junior Teams
Our two junior teams' competition was also curtailled midway through the second round – the teams:
A’s – Sophie Harvey, Clare Geddes, Neah Evens and Jaclyn McCallum.
B’s – Holly Rivett, Linda Kemp, Katie Offer and Emma Dickie.

The Junior Bs were 5th in tack and turnout.

After the storm had passed one of the SJ judges was marooned in a caravan in the middle of the field which was now a lake! He had to be rescued by a 4x4 tractor. It was none other than Douglas Glen from Darvel who officiates at many of our competitions!

The journey back home was very difficult - especially for those who drove up the M74 - finding the road closed and having to divert around flooding!
